There have been so many marijuana landmarks in the last few years. In 2018, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved the first product of it that is derived from industrial hemp. The same year saw Canada becoming the world’s first industrialized nation to make recreational marijuana legal.
Then, in 2019, Illinois became America’s first state to legalize the sale and consumption of marijuana for a recreational purpose at a legislative level. Several marijuana stocks increased to an all-time high in the 2019 first quarter.
The attention is now on what landmarks might be seen in the recreational marijuana sector in 2020. People have been expecting the NFL (National Football League) to adjust the policy of it on cannabidiol or medical marijuana. CBD is a non-psychoactive form of cannabinoid derived from industrial hemp, which has a wide variety of uses.
The benefits and uses of CBD oil and other cannabidiol-infused products are well documented in the media. Athletes can use cannabidiol to cope with various health conditions, and there is research to support the idea that it can be useful for them. The National Football League is among the most-viewed sports in the globe, so it permitting its players to use CBD to manage pain would be perceived as a progressive move. If it were to make this move, the NFL would also be seen as a CBD pioneer. However, as per the NFL’s recent statements, this seems not likely to happen.
The League Had Its Opportunity to become a Leader in Cannabidiol/Cannabis Reform
Its first real chance for change emerged in May 2019, when it and the NFLPA(National Football League Players Association) revealed their plan to create the Joint Pain Management Committee. The committee would look at alternative treatments for pain management and alternative therapies. Creating uniform practices regarding the use of prescription medicine, plus pain management, for every club, would be this committee’s job. Cannabidiol and medical marijuana were among the several alternative therapies that the League and the NFLPA considered.
The Committee was looking at cannabidiol as a practical option of treatment for NFL players, and this was big for various reasons. Firstly, as noted earlier, one of the most-viewed sports globally is the NFL. Even the MLB (Major League Baseball) removed CBD and marijuana from its banned substances list, so the NFL’s policy is surprising.
